How to clean marble floors?

If the floor in the home is made of marble and there is no spare professional cleaner, how to maintain the marble floor? You can use the following methods in your daily life to extend its service life:

Tips to Maintain Your Marble Floors

1. Clean the white marble floor regularly with a mop to prevent abrasives such as dust and sand from scratching them. Use a soft, natural, chemical-free mop, and make sure to clean the mop head between uses. Avoid using a vacuum cleaner to clean up the dust and dirt on the marble, because the wheels of the vacuum cleaner can easily scratch the floor.

2. Use soap to clean the marble floor, remember not to use acidic cleaners. Do not use anything that contains vinegar or lemon, because the acid will corrode the marble, leaving white marks similar to water stains.

All you need to do this is water and a few drops of mild pH neutral dishwashing liquid. Wet the floor with dishwashing liquid and replace the dirty water as needed. Be careful not to over-soak when mopping, as any water left on the floor will cause staining when it evaporates.

3. Rinse and dry the marble floor. After applying soapy water on the marble, mop the floor with clean water again to thoroughly rinse the surface to remove any remaining soap residue. Then dry the floor with a soft cloth by hand, or use a dry mop.

4. Remove stains from marble. Marble is a porous stone known for its easy staining. This means that if you spill something on it, be sure to blot it dry immediately. But if an oil spill happens and has time to happen, don’t worry: there is still hope. You can use a cloth dipped in a solution of 12% hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of ammonia to clean the stain locally.

5. Remove the etching marks on the marble. The etching marks are dark spots caused by the acid that erodes the surface of the stone. To repair the etching marks, moisten the surface with clean water and sprinkle with marble polishing powder. Then, with a damp cloth, rub the powder on the stone in a circular motion. Continue polishing until the mark disappears.

6. To seal the marble, in order to prolong the service life of the marble, the sealant is applied approximately every 2 to 3 years. Apply the sealant according to the manufacturer's instructions. Keep in mind that sealing will not make the marble stain resistant, but it does make it more resistant to staining.
