Introduction of sandstone origin in China

As one of the three major sandstone producing areas in the world, China is extremely rich in sandstone mineral resources. Due to China's vast territory and complex geological environment, there are many varieties of sandstone. Although there are many varieties of sandstone in China, they are mainly concentrated in Sichuan, Yunnan, Shandong and other places. There are more than 100 quarries in Sichuan Province. At the same time there are Henan, Shanxi, Shaanxi and other places.

1. China's Largest Sandstone Producing Area - Sichuan Sandstone

Sichuan sandstone belongs to argillaceous sandstone. Its fine particle size and soft texture make it very suitable as a building decoration material, especially as a carved stone. Due to the complex geological conditions in Sichuan, there are many kinds of sandstones in Sichuan. The color of Sichuan sandstone can be said to be the most abundant in China, including red, green, gray, white, black, purple, yellow and so on. However, due to the relatively soft material, inconvenient transportation and backward quarrying methods, Sichuan sandstone basically supplies small slabs, but cannot provide slabs larger than 1m. However, if the quantity is small, the mine can use a circular saw to cut the supply in small quantities. However, due to the high damage rate, the price is also more expensive. But we heard that there is a kind of sandstone in Sichuan whose hardness is comparable to that of granite.

2. Yunnan Sandstone

Yunnan sandstone and Sichuan sandstone are both argillaceous sandstones with fine grains. However, due to the different geological environment, the texture of Yunnan sandstone is more beautiful and hardness than that of Sichuan sandstone, and it has its own style characteristics. Yunnan sandstone is also rich in color. Yellow sandstone, landscape sandstone, red sandstone, white sandstone and blue sandstone are popular.

Due to the early start of the sandstone industry in Yunnan, the quarrying processing technology is relatively high. It can supply slabs over 1m. However, due to the soft texture of mudstone and limited applications, tile and cut-to-size are the most popular product forms.

3. Shandong Sandstone

Shandong sandstone belongs to sea sandstone, with coarse grain structure and high hardness. But rather brittle. Shandong sandstone can basically be cut into slabs over 1.2m. Some are even used as countertops. And a lot of Shandong sandstone can be cut into 1 cm thin tiles. Due to its hardness, it can handle almost all surface treatments. Shandong sandstone has relatively few colors, mainly red, yellow, green, purple, brown and white. But Shandong sandstone is basically veined. Except for white sandstone and purple sandstone, we have no contact with other solid sandstones. In fact, these two kinds of sandstone are not all pure color, white sandstone has dark patterns, purple sandstone has white spots.

Other Sandstone

In fact, the sandstones of Henan and Hebei are relatively close to those of Shandong. They also belong to sea sandstone, with coarse grain and high hardness, but less color, mainly wood grain sandstone. Shaanxi-Shaanxi sandstone is not popular, and the color is relatively monotonous.
