What to do with the leftover granite from your project?

When you install new granite as part of a construction or renovation project, chances are you'll be left with at least some leftovers. These parts usually come in the form of leftover blocks from the supplier, and there is simply no room for them in the installation. The question is: what should you do with them now?

Some try to sell them to granite contractors or recycling companies. Others keep them handy for any necessary repair work during or after installation. But if you want to get creative, there are plenty of other uses for these leftovers - many of which you can do 100% yourself!

Build Desktop

If you have a large granite slab left over for your project, you can combine it with a suitable base to turn it into a sturdy, attractive tabletop. The options here are almost limitless. For example, you can mount it on an iron base and legs, use it as an indoor table, or even place it on a tree stump to create a makeshift patio table.

Granite Table Top

Of course, your granite slab will almost certainly have jagged edges, so it's important to bevel those edges to be safe. Also, make sure your base is strong enough to support the weight of the board, and that the surface area of the granite table top is only slightly larger than the base (about 0.3 times should be safe).

Design A Tray

Relatively small leftover granite is perfect for serving trays and decorative trays, depending on your preference. Granite trays on the counter can add an extra touch of elegance to your kitchen and dining area. Use it to serve your collection of cheese, meat and fruit, or any hors d'oeuvres you see fit.

On the other hand, you can also turn granite into a decorative tray for your living room space. It's relatively easy to shape and form the tray to your needs, you just need to install two handles on the top or sides to complete the look. Add a book or two to the top and you'll have a nice ornament that will aid your decor.

Make A House Number

Do you already have your house number on your house number or post? If so, is it made up of those cheap plastic "glued" numbers? Instead of dealing with the thrill of numbers that keep peeling off the surface, why not create a unique house number from the granite you have left over?

Just take a suitable piece of granite, shape it as desired, and carve (or paint) your house number on the board. It's relatively easy to do, and you'll get a house number that will stand the test of time - guaranteed!

Use It For Exterior Home Projects

Granite Patio

When it comes to exterior home uses for leftover granite, the sky is the limit. You can take some leftover boards and turn them into tiles for your patio or porch; build stacking fountains out of granite remains; or even use your leftover granite to build a retaining wall around your house or garden (assuming you have enough material).
